As summer unfolds, we are excited to announce the 5th Edition of the Young Environment Ambassador (YEA) Programme, welcoming a new cohort of enthusiastic Form 3 to Form 5 students who are eager to deepen their understanding of climate action and community engagement.

The opening ceremony took place on 18 July 2026 at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum's Blue Ocean Hall, featuring welcoming remarks from Mr Dennis Wu, Fellow of Civic Exchange, who officially kicked off the event. We were also delighted to hear an inspiring speech from Mr Tse Chin Wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology, who set an encouraging tone for the programme ahead, followed by remarks from Mr Jeremy Michell, Deputy Director (Curatorial and Education) of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.

A highlight of the ceremony was the sharing session by Mr Lam Chiu Ying, former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, who offered the new ambassadors valuable insights drawn from his decades of experience in climate science and environmental advocacy. The ceremony continued with a heartfelt alumni sharing session by two previous YEA award-winning participants — reflecting on their own journeys through the programme and encouraged the new cohort to make the most of the months ahead.

This year's programme is made possible thanks to the generous funding from The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong, ExxonMobil, and IP&E GBA Ltd. We are also deeply grateful to our education partner, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, for graciously hosting the ceremony and providing the venue for many of our upcoming sessions. Our heartfelt thanks go to all supporting organisations, including At Knowledge Education Foundation, Climate Fresk, Energy Institute Hong Kong, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Environmental Management Association of Hong Kong, the Environmental Protection Department, HSBC, the Institution of Civil Engineers (Hong Kong), Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden, Little Woods Nature Education, Redress, Swire Properties, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, The Hong Kong Institute of Planners, the Division of Environment and Sustainability at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Loops Hong Kong, and The Nature Conservancy.

In the weeks ahead, our new ambassadors will take part in eight training days packed with workshops, board games, and human library sessions with experts from NGOs, policymaking bodies, businesses, and professional institutions, along with site visits spanning a recycling centre, oyster reef restoration works, and the Hong Kong Observatory. Building on the successes of previous cohorts, this year's YEAs will promote sustainable development and environmental awareness in schools and communities in Hong Kong’s future.

We look forward to witnessing their growth and contributions as they become champions for environmental sustainability in Hong Kong and beyond.
