Key Environmental Education Leaders

Empower Educators to Nurture our Next Generation of Environmental Stewards

About KEL

About KEL

To drive transformative change in environmental education, Civic Exchange introduces the Key Environmental Education Leaders (KEL) as part of the Community Empowerment initiative.

In response to growing climate and resource challenges, and building on the strong presence of sustainability within Hong Kong’s secondary curriculum, the programme empowers teachers to play a leading role in advancing climate literacy and sustainable lifestyles among students. By translating research into actionable strategies, KEL fosters a network of educators who can integrate sustainability into school practices, strengthen public engagement, and contribute to broader climate and biodiversity goals.

Ultimately, KEL seeks to create a dynamic platform for advancing climate action and aligning environmental education with global sustainability goals.

Programme Summary

The KEL Programme provides educators with comprehensive training on four key environmental themes: decarbonisation, nature-based solutions, sustainable consumption, and waste management. Through a series of interactive seminars, participants will deepen their understanding of these critical issues while exploring practical ways to apply them in school settings. Each session features expert insights, real-world case studies, and collaborative group discussions, supporting teachers in translating sustainability concepts into effective, school-based actions.

Decarbonisation

Understand the connection between human activities and climate change, its impact on society, and potential solutions

Sustainable Consumption

Understand how our daily lives impact the natural environment in terms of carbon and other footprints

Nature-based Solutions

Recognise the importance of nature in climate action and how to promote school environmental education through outdoor ecological education and high-efficiency teaching and learning methods

Waste Management

Discover how the circular economy can be the ultimate solution for a sustainable Hong Kong, characterised by minimal waste and a thriving economy
